Being Charged as a Juvenile
In Massachusetts, juveniles are generally considered children age 16 or younger. Depending on the severity of the crime and any prior criminal record, the court may decide to try a juvenile as an adult.
If the case goes to juvenile court, they can face informal or formal charges. Consequences of juvenile charges can include: probation, community service, fines or counseling. If the crime is serious, the juvenile may be sentenced to serve time in a juvenile detention center or prison (if they are tried as an adult). Being convicted of even a minor juvenile crime could result in expulsion from school.
Common Types of Juvenile Crimes
I can defend your child against a wide range of juvenile crimes, including:
- Underage drinking and drunk driving
- Drug charges
- Assault and battery
- Larceny
- Motor vehicle violations
- Vandalism
- Graffiti
The penalties for underage drunk driving are even more severe than adult drunk driving penalties. You need an attorney if your child is facing these charges.
