Worcester Probate Litigation

The client’s father died leaving his house and personal effects to some neighbors he had befriended. The client, an only child and whose mother had died a number of years ago, did not have an especially close relationship with her father. There was also a bank account with almost two hundred thousand dollars in it that the father had opened decades before and had put the client’s name on as a co-owner. The neighbors filed a lawsuit in the Probate and Family Court claiming that they and not the client were entitled to this money. The case was tried before a Master who issued a report in favor of the client. The matter went before a judge of the Probate and Family Court who affirmed the Master’s report and awarded the entire bank account to the client.
